Rigging & Install of 155,000 lb. Press

PROJECT FACTS

Location of project: Charlotte, VA
Project: Rigging & Install 155,000 lb. HIP Press

The MEI Charlotte team was recently enlisted by a leading machine builder to unload, assemble, and install a 155,000 lb. HIP press, requiring a highly engineered and precise lift plan to ensure the safe handling of the equipment.

The project, which spanned two weeks, involved a team of five skilled riggers and utilized specialized lifting equipment. The press was carefully lifted from the truck using a 60/80 Versa Lift and a four-post gantry before being loaded onto a Goldhofer transporter for relocation into the building.

Once inside, MEI’s rigging team meticulously uncrated all ancillary equipment and installed the press base and rails in a prepared pit. The base and rails were then grouted in place, ensuring solid support for the press. Using the four-post gantry, the crew up-righted the main frame and set it into the saddle within the pit. The assembly of the press’s cylinder and other components followed.

Despite working in tight conditions and unheated buildings with no power, MEI’s heavy rigging team overcame these challenges by setting up temporary lighting and heaters, ensuring the work continued safely and efficiently.

Engineered solutions, precision, and careful planning were the key components to successfully completing this demanding project. MEI is committed to delivering rigging services that are safe, efficient and always demonstrate the skill and dedication of our team.
